Aug 3, 2010 | MINI Downtown's Response to the Nation Wide BE MINI Design ContestOur MINI Challenge Cooper SLast summer, MINI celebrated its 50th anniversary, and GTA retailers joined the celebration with a competition. Every retailer created their very own MINI, showcasing their interpretation of the 50th anniversary. Thanks to the resounding success of last year’s event, MINI Design challenge is back.
MINI Downtown has equipped a 2010 MINI Cooper S with a load of modifications that enhance its exciting design, while at the same time tuning its performance. Our car started off with the Sport, Style, Convenience, and Comfort Packages, as well as the Limited Slip Differential, all loaded from the factory. We added the JCW Aerodynamics Kit for a more aggressive look, and also vinyl wrapped the car in Blue with Orange highlights. To finish off the exterior, MINI Ray mirror caps and side scuttles were fitted, as well as a handful of carbon accessories, including door handles, a rear wing, rear tunnels, and front splitters. Inside, the Cooper S was fitted with shift indicator lights, as well as an Alcantara steering wheel, e-brake, and shifter knob. Clearly, our MINI Cooper S is a stunner. But it doesn’t end in design.
We wanted to make sure our Cooper S drives as brilliantly as it looks. So we equipped it with a JCW sport suspension, and the JCW exhaust.
MINI Canada is holding a competition between GTA retailers on the 29th of August, so don’t forget to check our website at the end of the month for the results. |
Jul 22, 2010 | Canadian Driver: 2010 MINI Cooper S 50 MayfairSpecial Edition made in honour of MINI's 50th birthday."Those other vehicles aren’t MINIs, and that’s what this car is all about: it appeals to a select group of drivers who pay what it costs, because it is what it is. And for this year, and this year only, a very special Mini pays tribute to drivers who, over the last half-century, also wouldn’t settle for anything less.” - Jil McIntosh, Canadian Driver. July 21, 2010
Jil McIntosh of the Canadian Driver recently reviewed MINI Cooper S 50 Mayfair, a special edition made in honour of MINI's 50th birthday.
She starts off by describing the additional features the Mayfair 50 model brings to the ordinary MINI Cooper, like the Toffy Lounge leather and trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated sport seats, sunroof, Bluetooth, USB, the Mayfair 50 badges, and more.
McIntosh admits that the MINI isn’t an inexpensive vehicle, but also points out that “nothing else on the road looks or drives like it, and that’s its appeal to fans, who buy it not for its practicality or perceived value, but because they simply want one.”
And further focusing on the sporty driving of the MINI, she says “little else on the automotive scene tackles curves and corners quite the way the Mini does… The Mini’s quick steering immediately sends the front end in the direction you’ve indicated, and the steering wheel communicates everything the tires are feeling.” McIntosh also loved the MINI’s “row-your-own” (manual) transmission, describing it as a slick system, with a pleasantly notchy shifter, nicely-weighted clutch pedal and big chrome shifter ball, which add to the fun of driving “the little car.”
In the end, she concludes that although the MINI isn’t inexpensive – and that a buyer can get cars that are larger or may have a few more standard features – none of the competing choices are MINIs. “On the other hand, those other vehicles aren’t MINIs, and that’s what this car is all about: it appeals to a select group of drivers who pay what it costs, because it is what it is. And for this year, and this year only, a very special Mini pays tribute to drivers who, over the last half-century, also wouldn’t settle for anything less.”
